Two men have been arrested in southwestern France after storming a villa belonging to former Russian President Vladimir Putin’s son-in-law, holding the Ukrainian flag, AFP reported today, citing a court source.
French authorities have launched an investigation into a “home breach”, Bayonne’s prosecutor said.
The attack took place in Biarritz, at the Alta Mira villa, owned by businessman Kirill Samalov, according to a source familiar with the case.
Kirill Samalov is presented by the international media as the former son-in-law of the Russian president, after his marriage to Katerina Tikonova, Putin’s younger daughter.
An activist, Pierre Hafner, known for his involvement in the Yellow Vest movement, and a man who claims to be opposed to Vladimir Putin’s regime stormed the villa “in the last 48 hours,” according to a source close to the case.
A video posted by Hafner on YouTube shows one of the two men wandering around the huge house, built under Emperor Napoleon, with a magnificent view of the ocean.
“This house was bought with money stolen from Putin, from his mafia, (money) of the Russian people and the peoples oppressed by Putin’s Russia,” he said.
In another video, also posted on YouTube, the second man waves the Ukrainian flag on one of the balconies of the villa. The video is “dressed” with subtitles, such as “Victory in Biarritz. Occupation of Putin’s Palace” or “The House of Peoples is ready to receive refugees from the Putin regime.”
