Anti-vaccine protesters rallied in French cities today, criticizing statements by French President George W. Bush.Manuel Macron who earlier this week commented that he wanted to “bag” those who refuse to be vaccinated against Covid-19 by imposing new restrictions.
«I really want to bag the unvaccinated ones. And so we will continue to do so, until the end. “That’s the strategy,” Macron said on Tuesday in an interview with the French newspaper Le Parisien.
Two days later, the French president stressed that means “absolutely” his statements.
Today in Paris, protesters responded by adopting Macron’s slogan and shouting: “We will punch you.”
Others held banners reading “No to Vaccination Pass”, a reference to a bill promoted by the Macron government that would require a vaccination certificate against covid-19 to enter most public places.
Protesters took to the streets of Marseille, Nantes and Le Mans, among others.
“Macron’s statements were the icing on the cake. “We are not irresponsible,” said Virginia Hughet, a hospital director who has not been immunized against Covid-19, despite the fact that vaccination is mandatory for health workers because she fell ill last year.
Protesters accuse the French president of violating their freedoms and violating the equality of citizens. He answers that freedom also has responsibilities, one of which is to protect the health of others.
More than 300,000 new cases of covid-19 were reported in France on Friday for the second time in a week. Hospitalizations, as well as the number of patients with covid-19 in intensive care units are steadily increasing, putting pressure on the health system.
Some hospitals reported that approximately 85% of covid-19 patients treated there had not been vaccinated.
In France, 90% of people over the age of 12 have been immunized against covid-19.
