“Theaters, cinemas and concert halls are safe places.” From this statement starts the hearing of the Minister of Culture, Dario Franceschini, in front of the CTS, the Scientific Technical Committee, on anti-Covid measures for places of culture. That of the minister was a meeting expected by the entire world of culture and entertainment that has protested in recent days also comparing the limits imposed on concerts and outdoor events that do not seem to apply to political rallies.
Franceschini asked the CTS to “evaluate the possibility of overcoming interpersonal distancing measures and current capacity limits, maintaining the obligation of the Green Pass and wearing a mask for the duration of the shows“. By the end of September, an update of the criteria used so far that limit the capacity of cinemas and theaters to 50% should arrive.
The request brought by the minister is the one that the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces also indicated to Government: with the compulsory Green pass, increase the capacity limit for live shows to 80% starting from October to reach 100% in a short period of time, if the epidemic curve gives positive indications.
Minister Franceschini has long been in favor of an expansion of the entrances, but his proposals have not found the government in agreement. «My position», he explained, «is known, it is formal, and it is contained in letters that I have addressed to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Health. I believe that in light of the rules they have taken away many measures in other areas where people are very close in normal activities, in the presence of masks, green passes, checks at the entrance to theaters, cinemas or museums, there are the conditions to exceed the capacity limits both outdoors and indoors ».
A step forward is also ready for sport with the increase in capacity in stadiums and arenas. The undersecretary for sport Valentina Vezzali was heard by the CTS on the subject: for the stadiums it would rise from 50 to 75 percent of the capacity, for the sports halls from 35 to 50. Already for the Nations League, which will involve the Mancini national team with Spain, France and Belgium, in Milan and Turin, on 6, 7 and 10 October, there could be expanded numbers.
