Franco Battiato, the preview clip of the documentary The master’s voice

A love letter and a heartfelt tribute: the film-event on Franco Battiato, The master’s voicearrives at the cinema in 200 copies for one week, from November 28th to December 4th.

A journey that retraces not only the crucial stages of the singer-songwriter’s career, passed away in 2021, but also the memories of a lifetime retraced by exceptional testimonies. The title is named after his self-titled album which was the first in Italy to exceed one million copies sold. It was 1982, exactly 40 years have passed since that moment and his close friend and film producer Stefano Senardi pulls the strings of an exceptional existence, made up of notes and poetry. Directed by the journalist Marco Spagnoli, who presented the work to Taormina Film Fest.

And Vanity Fair offers an exclusive preview of a clip of the documentary with Caterina Caselli.

The story starts from Milan to get to his home in Milo, in Sicily, to show the Master’s philosophy and his artistic inspirations to the public. Senardi dialogues with personalities from the world of cinema, criticism, music and photography to return a vivid and powerful fresco by Franco Battiato. “This trip has a precise reason – his words – treat with care what Battiato has left us. And being able to understand the ultimate meaning of an exceptional life like his, telling it in a plural and intimate biography through memories, anecdotes from his friends, archive materials and the wonderful songs of this extraordinary and unforgettable artist. We hope we succeeded.”

Among the artists featured in this work also: Nanni Moretti, Willem Dafoe, Oliviero Toscani, Mara Maionchi, Morgan, Alice, Carmen Consoli, Vincenzo Mollica, Andrea Scanzi, Francesco Messina, Roberto Masotti, Francesco Cattini, Alberto Radius, Carlo Guaitoli, Corrado Fortuna, Juri Camisasca and Filippo Destrieri.

Scene after scene, some songs from the album are brought back to the screen The master’s voice (among which Cuccurucucù, Permanent Center of Gravity, White Flag, La Cura) but also other pieces from some special performances, as well as a tribute by Carmen Consoli who performs Weirdness of love.
