François Fillon soon to represent a Russian oil group?

François Fillon pursues his new career, far from French politics. After his withdrawal from asset manager Tikehau, the former Prime Minister of Nicolas Sarkozy could soon become the “representative of the Russian Federation” within a Russian oil group, according to an official document spotted by The world. His candidacy was proposed to the board of directors of the Zaroubejneft company by Prime Minister Mikhail Michoustine. Unless François Fillon himself advises otherwise, this post should soon return to him, because the Zaroubejneft company, public, has no other choice but to obey Mikhail Michoustine.

François Fillon’s political past is not mentioned in the ministerial decree referring to his candidacy. He is described there as the president of Apteras, his consulting company. Through his company, François Fillon is already present in Russia since he works there with French companies established there.

François Fillon already close to Moscow in 2017

Zarubezhneft is not one of the most important oil companies in Russia. But it enjoys a certain proximity to power. Its chairman of the board is none other than Evgueni Murov, former head of the FSO, Russia’s federal protection service, responsible in particular for the president’s security.

If François Fillon accepts this new mission, it will be a new sign of his rapprochement with Moscow. Already in 2017, the year he founded Apteras, he pleaded during his presidential campaign for France to forge closer ties with Russia. This year, he has already visited Russia twice, while the borders are still closed to the French. A sign that this new collaboration is imminent?
