Fraudsters distribute fake SPIDER token using Tom Holland

Unknown people hacked the page of actor Tom Holland, who played the Marvel comic book character Spider-Man. Having gained access to an account on the social network X (formerly Twitter), they began distributing phishing links, reports U.Today.

In particular, a post appeared on Holland’s page allegedly announcing the actor’s partnership with the Binance crypto exchange and the launch of the Spiderverse collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

In addition, the compromised account contained a link to a website offering to purchase a fake SPIDER token. At the time of publication of the news, the post was deleted. Presumably, Tom Holland managed to regain access to the page in X.

Hacking accounts in X in order to distribute phishing links is one of the popular fraud schemes in the crypto industry. Previously, hackers compromised MicroStrategy’s account and posted an announcement of a fake airdrop.

A similar incident occurred in February 2024, when unknown people hacked the Notcoin project account in X. They published a link that led to a fake website.

In addition, in January it became known that the pages of Arkham and the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) were hacked. The attackers probably used a SIM card swap method.
