Fred Perry’s 70 years of polo shirt are being celebrated at the Design Museum in London

In the Design Museum (Design Museum) one of the leading spaces in the world dedicated to modern architecture and design, will celebrate the Fred Perry brand for 70 years of the iconic polo shirt. The new exhibition opens on June 10.

As broadcast by the Athenian News Agency, in the exhibition «Fred Perry: A British Icon»Stories from principles of the company as a sportswear brandν for tennis up to her modern designs.

Visitors will also be able to discover how the cultural significance of the Fred Perry polo shirt evolved and how it has expanded through its musical ties with Amy Winehouse, Gorillaz and The Specials and designers Charles Jeffrey of LOVERBOY and Raf Simons.

The report shows the beginnings of the company in Britain in the 1950s through archival material and early original designs and how its founder, three-time Wimbledon champion Fred Perry, influenced the brand’s character.

Fred Perry designed the first polo pique T-shirt for tennis in 1952 with emphasis on light fabric and its functionality. He designed a garment that was practical enough for tennis but also elegant enough to be worn off the court, which was adopted by movie stars, football fans and representatives of many music scenes and became a part of British clothing chosen by different subcultures.

The wonderscitizens of Fred Perry will be able to browse at the free exhibition at the Huth Gallery of the Design Museum from 10 to 19 June.
