The elected Mayor Heimarras Freddy Beleri is going to appeal to the Supreme Court, as the Albanian authorities they rejected the appeal which he had exercised, against his imprisonment.
The struggle for the release of the mayor F. Beleris also concerns the possibility of personal presence at his swearing-in, in view of the relevant meeting of the Municipal Council.
Freddy Beleris was arrested on May 12, two days before the municipal elections. His arrest and pretrial detention has caused strong reactions both inside Albania and internationally.
It is recalled that the brother of BelerisLeonardos, had reported that “there was the possibility and the risk that he would remain in custody”.
“Right now there is still an opportunity to appeal to the Supreme Court and this will be heard within the next month, i.e. in 20 to 30 days”, he had said on June 1, commenting on the next moves on the part of the elected Mayor of Heimarra.
