Frederico D’Avila’s loss of mandate vote is postponed for the 7th time

The vote on the temporary loss of mandate of deputy Frederico d’Avila (PL) was postponed for the seventh time. The attempt was scheduled for this Wednesday (22), but could not be carried out due to lack of quorum – that is, there were not enough deputies of the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo (Alesp) in plenary to vote.

The punishment against Frederico D’Ávila was established by the Alesp Ethics Council, after the deputy’s offenses against the Archbishop of Aparecida, Pope Francis and the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) during a plenary session. The case took place in October last year.

Since then, after processing in the house, the case has evolved into the decision to punish the temporary loss of mandate for three months. However, as it was not possible to vote on the draft resolution so far, it was not possible to apply the punishment.

According to the proceedings at Alesp, another six sessions were postponed due to lack of quorum in the house: on May 10, 11, 24 and 25, and two sessions on June 7.

remember the case

The case against D’Ávila was opened after the deputy used the plenary session of Alesp’s small office to call Pope Francis a “vagabundo”, the Archbishop of Aparecida a “vagabundo” and a “scoundrel”, the religious of the Catholic Church “pedophiles” bastards” and the CNBB of “a cancer”.

The speech was given after Archbishop Dom Orlando Brandes, of Aparecida, said that “a beloved homeland cannot be an armed homeland” during the saint’s day, on October 12, 2021. After the case, the CNBB delivered a letter to the Alesp presidency calling for D’Ávila’s punishment.

The case against the deputy was opened in the Ethics Council in November and, after processing in the commission, the temporary suspension of D’Avila’s mandate was determined.

Now, the vote among the deputies of the house is missing to then determine whether or not the deputy will have his mandate suspended.
