Freedom income for women who have been subjected to violence: here’s how to ask

Up to 400 euros per month for a maximum of 12 months for women victims of violence whether alone or with children. And the Freedom income for women victims of violence contained in the Dpcm of December 17, 2020 and now finally funded and launched. The fund allocated is three million euros. It is available to regions and autonomous provinces that can add their own funds. This contribution is compatible with the Citizenship Income.

“It is finally operational,” said the Minister for Equal Opportunities and the Family Elena Bonetti, “A measure of extraordinary importance, which helps women victims of violence to undertake a concrete path of re-appropriation of their freedom and autonomy, a prospect of salvation and hope”.

The income of freedom, born from an amendment signed by Lucia Annibali, is part of the national plan to combat male violence against women because women must not only be followed in the complaint, but must help overcome the economic blockade that often prevents them from leaving a situation of violence.

To receive the contribution, the women who apply for the contribution must be followed by anti-violence centers recognized by the regions and by the social services. The request must be made to INPS. A specific platform for connection with the Italian municipalities has been set up which will allow the application to be forwarded. You must attach a self-certification, the declaration signed by the legal representative of the Anti-violence center following the person who makes the request and the declaration of the social service of reference. The latter must certify the state of extraordinary or urgent need.

The contribution is part of the Relaunch decree and aims to help the most vulnerable people in a period like that of the pandemic. It allows women victims of violence to have a first economic independence and the possibility of starting new life paths independently. It can be used for a new home or even for a school trip for women or children.

More than 60 women are victims of femicide, that is, killed by husbands, relatives or companions, since the beginning of the year in Italy. Of the 96 women killed since January, 82 have lost their lives in the family. In 2020, there were nearly 80% more calls to 1522, the public utility number against violence against women and stalking. Istat data, in the report Calls for help during the pandemic, confirm what the associations that defend women have been saying for months. Requests for help increased by 79.5% compared to 2019, both by phone and via chat (+ 71%). Women reported physical violence, in 47.9% of cases, but also, with a figure exceeding 50%, psychological violence.
