French authorities have seized a yacht linked to the head of the Russian oil company Rosneft Igor Setsin – a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin – in the Mediterranean port of La Ciota, Finance Minister Bruno Lemerre said today.
The development became known as Western states impose massive sanctions, including “freezing” assets, to the detriment of Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.
“We thank the French customs for imposing European Union sanctions on those close to the Russian government,” Lemmer said in a Twitter post.
According to the information service of the Ministry of Finance, the yacht belongs to a company, in which Setsin was identified as a major shareholder.
At the same time, the French authorities seized another merchant ship in the port of Loire in Brittany, which is also linked to Russian interests.
