And tradition “shows” Macron

In the history of the fifth French Republic, usually the winner of the second round of the presidential election was also the first in the first round. Except in three cases:

The first was in 1974 when François Mitterrand was first in the first round but lost in the second to Giscard d’Estaing.

In 1981 Giscard d’Estaing was first in the first round but lost in the second to Mitterrand. Finally in 1995 Lionel Jospin was first in the first round but lost in the second to Jacques Chirac. Since then the winner of the second round was first in the first round as well.

Polls closed in most polling stations

Polls have closed in most polling stations in France and ballot counting has begun. The polling stations of the largest cities in France will remain open until 21.00 Greek time. With the closing of the last ballot box, the first results will be allowed to be broadcast.

In the meantime, Emanuel Macron has gone to the Champs Elysees where he will watch the first election results and then he will go to the Field of ‘Areos under the Eiffel Tower where he will address his friends in the presence of 1300 accredited journalists. Marin Le Pen is also expected to address her friends in the center of Paris in the presence of 500 accredited journalists.
