French Foreign Minister warns of “collective guilt” if the residents of Mariupol are not helped

LAST UPDATE: 18:01

The French foreign minister said Sunday that there would be “collective guilt” if nothing was done to help civilians in Mariupol, the Ukrainian city under siege by Russian forces.

“Mariupol is a classic example of military siege and military sieges are horrific wars because civilian populations are being slaughtered, annihilated. The pain is terrible,” he said.

“That is why there must be at least one moment when the civilian population can breathe,” he said, adding that this was what French President Emanuel Macron was trying to secure.

Jean-Yves Le Drian made these statements at the international conference Doha Forum.

It is recalled that Macron announced the implementation of a humanitarian operation to evacuate the residents of Mariupol who wish, in cooperation with Greece and Turkey, with negotiations for the project underway.
