French minister: France’s goal ‘no Russian victory’ in Ukraine

The goal for France is “no Russian victory”, it is “to liberate Ukraine”, said today the French Minister of European Affairs Clement Bon.

“The one who is seeking war, the one who is warlike is Mr Putin,” Bonn said.

“We are providing the means to Ukraine without ourselves being at war to resist, (…) to liberate itself from an attack. They did not provoke the war from Russia. They are trying to liberate themselves from an occupying country as a sovereign state. It’s legitimate, we support them, it’s not just a moral duty, if Europe did not do it, it would be like saying, ‘Come on, Putin’s Russia can do whatever it wants. “You are weak, you are not making peace. Ukraine is Europe,” he said.

Paris’s relations with Kyiv are not going through the best period. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said yesterday that any alternative to Ukraine’s bid to join the European Union would be a “compromise” with Russia in response to a “European Community” plan proposed by his French counterpart Emanuel Macron.

“We must not look for a way out of Russia, and Macron is doing it in vain,” Zelensky said last week.
