French Finance Minister Bruno Lemerre told French television channel France 2 that Sunday’s parliamentary election result was a “democratic shock”, but added that fears that the country could become ungovernable were unfounded. Reuters.
Lemmer noted that President Emanuel Macron’s faction will still have the highest percentage in parliament, adding that it is vital to reach out to other political opponents who share Macron’s ideas.
“What worries me would be simply blocking the country, which would actually block our ability to reform and protect the French, especially in terms of spending power,” Lemmer added.
Lemerre told a television station that in the near future France will have to make decisions on issues of paramount importance such as climate change, the economy and the war in Ukraine.
The minister also spoke of a change in mentality regarding the political dialogue in France, while referring to the statements of the leader of the left, Jean-Luc Melanson, about the great defeat of the presidential faction, noting that if there is a winner in today’s elections, it is the far right and not the left
