French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal confirmed on Sunday (7) that he will resign from his post. Attal acknowledged in a speech after the release of exit polls that his political camp “did not obtain a majority tonight”.
The French politician, an ally of President Emmanuel Macron, said he “will offer his resignation to the President” and that he will continue to perform his duties “for as long as necessary”.
Finally, he also stated that in this legislature the French parliament will be stronger than ever, and that no majority could be formed “by extremist parties”.
Exit polls indicate that the left-wing coalition New Popular Front won the largest number of seats in the National Assembly, but that it will still be necessary to form alliances to guarantee an absolute majority in the body.
