French President Tests Positive for Corona Virus
French president Emmanuel Macron has tested positive for Corona virus. The president is currently in isolation and would remain so for the next week.
The presidency released a statement, informing the public of the news. It further said that he will carry out all his duties and activities while in quarantine. Emmanuel Macron has now joined the list of the head of states who have contracted the virus, which includes American President Donald Trump as well.
The French president had a Lebanon trip planned on the 22nd of December. The trip will now be cancelled, along with the other planned visits, a spokes person informed the media.
French Prime Minister will also practice isolation, considering that he has been in contact with the President in the last few days.
The 42 year old President took the test as soon as the first symptoms appeared.
2.43 million people in France have contracted the virus up till now resulting in more than 59,000 deaths.
While a nation wide curfew of 8 pm is in effect in the country, a surge in virus cases has been recorded recently. Like other nations, France too is eagerly awaiting the Corona virus vaccine. According to Jean Castex, the Prime Minister, the country will obtain 1.16 million vaccines by the end of this year.
