French regulators take on Worldcoin

The French Data Privacy Authority (CNIL) considered the legality of the collection of biometric data by the Worldcoin project “doubtful”, informs Reuters.

“Worldcoin was collecting data in France and CNIL initiated an investigation,” the service said in a comment. Specialists from Germany are helping to conduct an investigation in France.

Behind the technical solutions for the Worldcoin project is Tools for Humanity, co-founded by Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI (developer of the chat bot ChatGPT). Company attracted $115 million in Mike investment round led by blockchain venture crypto fund Blockchain Capital with participation of Andreessen Horowitz crypto fund (a16z crypto) and crypto exchange venture arm Coinbase.

Also earlier, the Office of the Information Commissioner (ICO) of Britain announced that it would check the Worldcoin project.
