A French government deputy minister has resigned in the last few hours after a court imposed a six-month suspended sentence on him for failing to declare his assets.
O Undersecretary of State for Small and Medium Enterprises Alan Grise said in a statement that the judges had also ruled that he would not be eligible for public office for three years, a sentence also suspended.
In October, prosecutors had asked Grise to be sentenced to 10-12 months suspended imprisonment, to be fined 30,000 euros and not to be able to be elected to public office for three years.
The 68-year-old Grise had been accused of “incomplete or false statement” of his financial situation.
The resigned deputy minister had failed to declare “financial contributions you had in a savings program, as well as the account linked to it” amounting to 171,000 euros.
He said he would appeal.
