Chancellor Friedrich Mertz appeared confident that, despite Slovakia’s reservations, the 27 Member States of the European Union will eventually approve the 18th package of sanctions against Russia, as proposed by the European Commission. “I am grateful that the Commission presented its proposals for an 18th sanctions package. If everything goes according to the planning, it will be approved next week, “Mr Mertz said Wednesday night, following a meeting with Danish Methe Fredricksen’s prime minister, adding that a similar preparation is underway in the US. Ms Fredriksen, for her part, called for a harsh stance on Russia and said that efforts have been being negotiated with Moscow for a long time.
