“Friends” became the most watched series on streaming platforms in the United States, after the death of actor Matthew Perry, who played the character Chandler Bing. In the week from October 30th to November 5th, the series came in first place as the most popular among the American public, overtaking productions such as “Toda a Luz que Não Podemos Ver”, from Netflix, and “Gen V”, from Prime Video.
On HBO Max, for example, the streaming service in which “Friends” is available in Brazil, the series stood out. The research was carried out by “JustWatch”, a German website that brings together a collection of streaming services so that any series or film can be found more easily, among other functions.
Following the top 5 most watched series in the last week, in the USA, are “All the Light We Cannot See” (Netflix), “Gen V” (Prime Video), “Bodies” (Netflix) and “A Queda da House of Usher” (Netflix).
The opening song of the series, I’ll Be There For You, there was also an increase in reproductions. The growth was 721% in executions between October 28th and October 29th, according to a survey by the Deezer platform. The song is by the group The Rembrandts and was written especially for the series.
Matthew’s death
The actor was found dead, aged 54, in a jacuzzi at his home in Los Angeles, United States, on October 28. Initially, the hypothesis is that he drowned due to a sudden illness and initial toxicological tests rule out the presence of substances such as fentanyl or methamphetamine, according to information from TMZ.
Still, other tests were carried out on the body of Matthew Perry, who had a private funeral in Los Angeles, with the presence of the other members of “Friends”: Jennifer Aniston, Isa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc.
In a joint statement, the show’s stars mourned the loss of their friend. “There is so much to say, but now let’s take a moment to grieve and process this loss,” reads part of the statement.
