The 2024 edition of the Rock in Rio ! The festival started last Friday (13), offering the public shows by Travis Scott , Ludmilla , Matuê and much more.
The date was marked by trap – a subgenre of rap – whether in national or international versions. Slow and, at the same time, heavy beats graced the Cidade do Rock, in the west zone of Rio. See below 5 highlights from the first day of performances.
Punk group at Matuê’s show
The opening of the Palco Mundo was the responsibility of Brazilian rapper Matuê, who performed hits from his latest album “333” alongside Teto and Wiu, and opened the famous “punk circles” – like at rock concerts. The images gained prominence on social media.
After problems with the structure, Ludmilla brings a mix of funk and pagode to Palco Mundo
Singer Ludmilla also made her debut on the Palco Mundo stage. After facing technical problems, with part of her structure blocked by the Rock in Rio organizers, the singer opened her performance with a message: “They want to bring me down, they plan my end just to see me bleed.”
Soon after, she raised the temperature with classic funk songs such as “Rainha da Favela”, “Onda Diferente”, “Verdinha” and “Sou Má”. Also during the presentation, marked by the symbolic elements of sun, eclipse and moon, and the participation of MC Daniel, the voice of “Maldivas”, she performed old tracks such as “Fala mal de Mim”, from when she was still MC Beyoncé, “Sintomas de Prazer”, and “Você não sabe o que amor” and “Maliciosa” – pagode hits that are part of her project “Numanice”.
Shortly before concluding the show, the singer, who opted for two different looks, also incorporated songs by other artists such as “Snooze”, by American SZA.
21 Savage debuts in Brazil and plays a sample of a national song
As expected by his audience, British rapper 21 Savage, raised in Atlanta, United States, pleased the Brazilian audience by including a sample of “Serenata do Adeus”, by Vinícius de Moraes, sung by Elza Laranjeira, in the track “Redrum” – one of his most recent hits.
MC Cabelinho announces new album
In his debut at the festival, MC Cabelinho took the opportunity to announce a new album. Titled “Não Sou Santo, Mas Não Sou Bandido”, the album is scheduled to be released by the end of 2024. On stage, the musician joked: “I can’t stand singing the same songs anymore”.
Accompanied by the Coral das Favelas, the MC performed classic tracks from his repertoire such as “Né Segredo” and “X1”, in addition to inviting names such as Teto and Major RD to perform new tracks.
Travis Scott takes fans on stage
More than 40 minutes late, rapper Travis Scott took the stage, closing the first night of Rock in Rio 2024. The audience, who had waited for him for hours, couldn’t hide their excitement, going crazy with the performance of the hits included.
Between one track and another, the American star also invited three fans who were near the fence to come up on stage. There, they were able to enjoy songs like “Type Shit” and “Nightcrawler” alongside Travis.
Before concluding the performance, Scott heightened the excitement by playing the song “FE!N” five times in a row, inviting the audience to join in a great chorus.
