Chinese enthusiasts and craftsmen managed to launch the new Windows 11 operating system on the flagship smartphone Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 (review), which debuted back in 2017.
This is not the first Xiaomi smartphone to try to run Windows 11 instead of the usual Android-based MIUI shell. At the end of August, experiments were carried out on the Xiaomi Mi 8, but it is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, while the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 single-chip system.
However, Windows 11 has already been tested on the Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL, OnePlus 6T and some other smartphones. As the source notes, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 has a developer preview of Windows 11 with build number 22478.
It is noteworthy that the USB port works here, which was not immediately achieved with the Xiaomi Mi 8. However, it is noted that the system can slow down. In both cases, the ARM64 version of Windows 11 was used.
Note that Xiaomi updated the Mi Mix 2 last year to MIUI 12, however the firmware is still based on the Android 9.0 Pie operating system. The switch to Android 10 or Android 11 never happened.
