Mattel struck gold with “Barbie” , the toy company's first major feature film that grossed almost US$1.5 billion (almost R$7.5 billion) worldwide. It was the biggest movie of 2023 with eight Oscar nominations.
A CNN discovered that the Mattel hopes to maintain this movement with one film adaptation of another children's character: Bob the Builder .
A movie of animation based on children's animated series is in development with Jennifer Lopez hired as executive producer and the star of “In a New York Neighborhood,” Anthony Ramos, as voice actor from the beloved cartoon builder.
It is New version of “Bob the Builder” will “celebrate the vibrant, colorful textures of the Latin Caribbean nations and their peoples” the company said in a press release.
In addition to voicing Bob, Ramos will also serve as a producer.
In a statement, the actor said that the The film will focus on friends working together and how love can help overcome any obstacle .
“For years, the characters in 'Bob the Builder' have inspired young people around the world,” said Ramos, adding that he will bring elements inspired by his life into the film.
Jennifer Lopez will be involved through her production company, Nuyorican Productions, along with her producing partners Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina.
The television series “Bob the Builder” was distributed worldwide for more than a decade and is known for her popular catchphrase: “Can we fix it? Yes we can!”
“Bob the Builder” is Mattel’s first animated film but after the enormous success of “Barbie”, the company has plans to bring more toys to the big screen with films in the works inspired by everything from dolls like American Girl The Magic 8 Ball and even the card game ONE .
A source at Mattel said the company is developing a film about “Hot Wheels” with JJ Abrams, “Barney” with Daniel Kaluuya, and “Polly Pocket” with Lena Dunham, starring Lily Collins.
