From Columbine to Sandy Hook, schools have been the scene of some of the biggest mass shootings in recent US history.
On Tuesday, a shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, left at least 18 students and two adults dead. The gunman, who was killed in the attack, was an 18-year-old from Uvalde, Governor Greg Abbott said. School district police say he acted alone.

Sandy Hook
This year marks a decade since the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, in which six adults and 20 children were killed on December 14, 2012.
That day, 20-year-old Adam Lanza killed his 52-year-old mother, Nancy, and then drove his car to the school, about five miles away, with about 700 students.
Lanza opened his way by shooting at the entrance to the school, went in and shot some staff who came out to see what was going on. He then entered two rooms and continued the massacre. He took his own life, ending the attack that lasted less than 11 minutes.

On Valentine’s Day 2018, Nikolas Cruz entered Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, killing 17 students and teachers and injuring 17 others.
According to police, he pulled the fire alarm to draw people out and add to the death toll.
He was a former student who had been expelled for disciplinary reasons.

Another of the shootings that has etched itself in the memory of the United States is the one at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, on April 20, 1999.
18-year-old Eric Harris and 17-year-old Dylan Klebold kill 12 classmates and a teacher before committing suicide in the school library.
The two recorded home videos before the attack in which they made reference to what they intended and apologized to their parents for doing so.

School deaths in 2022
So far this year there have been at least three gun incidents in schools where there have been deaths.
As of March 31, 2022 , at Tanglewood High School in Greenville, South Carolina, 12-year-old student Jamari Cortez Bonaparte Jackson was shot to death. The alleged shooter, also 12, was arrested and indicted.
On January 29, 2022 At Beloit Memorial High School in Beloit, Wisconsin, 19-year-old Jion Broomfield was shot to death after a basketball game. Amaree Goodall, 19, was arrested in connection with the shooting.
On January 19, 2022 , at Oliver Citywide Academy in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 15-year-old Marquis Campbell was shot on school grounds. Campbell was taken to hospital in critical condition and died from his injuries. It is not yet known who the suspects are.
Gun violence in schools has claimed several victims
Since the 1990s, there have been more than 60 episodes of gun violence in schools with deaths according to the survey of the CNN . These are some of the ones that left the most victims.
November 30, 2021 – At Oxford High School in Oxford, Michigan, 15-year-old Ethan Crumbley allegedly opened fire killing four students and wounding seven others. The next day, Crumbley was charged as an adult with terrorism causing death, with four counts of intentional manslaughter. He also faces seven counts of assault with intent to kill and 12 counts of possession of a firearm while committing a felony.
May 18, 2018 – At Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, Texas, 17-year-old Dimitrios Pagourtzis allegedly opened fire killing 10 and wounding 13 others. Pagourtzis was arrested and charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault of a public official. In November 2019, he was declared mentally unfit to stand trial.
October 2, 2006 – In Nickel Mines, Pennsylvania, 32-year-old Charles Roberts IV went to a small Amish school and took at least 11 girls hostage. Five girls died and another six were injured. Roberts then killed himself.
March 21, 2005 – At Red Lake High School in Red Lake, Minnesota, 16-year-old Jeff Weise killed his grandfather and another adult, five students, a teacher, and a security officer. He later committed suicide.
May 1, 1992 – At Lindhurst High School in Olivehurst, Calif., Eric Houston, a 20-year-old dropout, entered and killed a former teacher and three students. He was sentenced to death.
