From “Dog Years” to “Prisma”: the new original Amazon Prime Video titles

After Celebrity Hunted, Ferro e LOL – Who laughs is out, per Amazon Prime Video The time has come to get serious, with dozens of original productions in the pipeline that, between films and TV series, will try to shake the competition represented by giants such as Netflix, Sky and Disney Plus. “We are creating a curated program of exceptional and unique Original Italian productions” said Georgia Brown, Head of European Amazon Originals, during the virtual press conference to present the new titles of the platform held in Rome.

“Our approach is to work with the most innovative Italian creators and talents to create engaging and ambitious local stories for our customers, giving life to characters and worlds like they’ve never seen before.” During the event, which they also attended Nicole Morganti, Head of Italian Originals di Amazon Studios, e Viktoria Wasilewski, Head of Content for Prime Video, all the made in Italy titles that we will see on Prime between autumn 2021 and 2022 have been announced.

THE ORIGINAL SERIES
Among the original series, there is great anticipation for Prism, the young adult series produced by Cross Productions written by the creators of SHAME Italy Ludovico Bessegato and the candidate for the Strega Prize Alice Urciuolo which revolves around the complex relationship between physical appearance and identity. The protagonists are Marco and Andrea, two identical twins who challenge gender norms in a different way, inaugurating a journey of discovery that will also involve their group of friends. Already from the premises, Prism promises sparks but, to see it, we will have to wait until 2022. We will also see next year The Bad Guy, a series that combines crime and dark comedy and tells the incredible story of Nino Scotellaro, the Sicilian prosecutor who has dedicated his entire life to the fight against the mafia and who, at one point, is accused of being one of those who he has always fought: a mobster. The series, produced by Indigo Film, directed by Giancarlo Fontana and written by Ludovica Rampoldi, Davide Serino and Giuseppe G. Stasi, is among the most anticipated titles of the platform together with Bang Bang Baby, also coming in 2022. The protagonists of this crime drama set in the Milan of the Eighties and produced by Lorenzo Mieli for The Apartment and Wildside are Adriano Giannini, Lucia Mascino, Dora Romano and Arianna Becheroni. The latter in the role of a shy and insecure teenager who becomes the youngest member of a criminal organization to win the love of her father. The series is created by Andrea Di Stefano, who wrote it together with Valentina Gaddi and Sebastiano Melloni, and directed by Michele Alhaique, Margherita Ferri, Giuseppe Bonito. Later, in 2023, we will also see Everybody Loves Diamonds, the series produced by Mario Gianani and Lorenzo Gangarossa for Wildside that sees Kim Rossi Stuart in the role of Leonardo Notarbartolo, the thief who, together with a deranged group of criminals, organized the so-called “Antwerp Strike” in 2003, scoring the largest diamond theft in the world. The series is directed by Gianluca Maria Tavarelli and written by Michele Astori, Stefano Bises, Giulio Carrieri and Bernardo Pellegrini.

AND FILM
As for the films, the first images of Dog years, the first Amazon Original Italia film with Aurora Giovinazzo in the role of Stella, a clumsy and cynical sixteen-year-old girl who, after a car accident, is convinced that her years should be counted like those of dogs, therefore from seven to seven. The cast that goes from Sabrina Impacciatore to is very rich Federico Cesari up to Isabella Mottinelli and a cameo by Achille Lauro. Behind the camera there is Fabio Mollo, the screenplay is by Mary Stella Brugiati and Alessandro Bosi, while the production is entrusted to Notorius Pictures. The arrival on Amazon Prime Video is scheduled for autumn 2021.

THE PROGRAMS
On the entertainment front, in addition to the highly anticipated second season of Celebrity Hunted – Manhunt arriving on June 18 with a very rich cast ranging from Achille Lauro and Boss Doms to Vanessa Incontrada, from Stefano Accorsi to Elodie, great curiosity also for Dinner Club, the new cooking travelogue produced by Banijay Italia that you will see Sabrina Ferilli, Luciana Littizzetto, Diego Abatantuono, Fabio De Luigi, Pierfrancesco Favino and Valerio Mastandrea travel around Italy with the chef Carlo Cracco discovering the culinary wonders and local traditions that our country has to offer. It arrives in autumn 2021. To these is added, however, also an overall deal with Achille Lauro that Amazon will involve, as well as in Celebrity Hunted as a competitor and in Dog years as a guest-star, also in Prism, of which he will write a song.

OTHER CONTENT
Finally, in terms of acquiring the rights to new exclusive content, Viktoria Wasilewski, Head of Content for Prime Video Italia, announced the arrival of Monterossi, a six-episode investigative thriller with a comic twist based on the popular detective novels by Alessandro Robecchi and dedicated to the character of Carlo Monterossi, starring Fabrizio Bentivoglio, a 50-year-old television writer who owes his success to the trashy shows he hates. When he decides to leave the world of TV forever, however, he is involved in a mysterious series of crimes that will lead him to meet several eccentric characters and a few too many dead bodies. The series, which also sees in the cast Donatella Finocchiaro, Tommaso Ragno and Martina Sammarco, is produced by Palomar and written by Davide Lantieri, Alessandro Robecchi and Roan Johnson, here also director. It will arrive on Prime Video in 2022. Finally, we close with I: Respira, the documentary dedicated to one of the most talented Italian artists, namely Benjamin Mascolo. From challenges to successes, the docufilm will take us on a long journey through Benji’s life, from Italy to Los Angeles and New York. I: Respira is produced by Marco Belardi for Lotus Production – a Leone Film Group company – and directed by Gianluigi Carella.
