From Europe to Paraguay: the route of 43 thousand weapons sold to factions in Rio and SP

The Federal Police (PF) investigation details the route of 43 thousand weapons that were sold to the main Brazilian factions.

According to information, Argentinean Diego Hernan Dirísio, considered the main arms smuggler in South America, bought weapons manufactured in European countries, such as Croatia, Turkey, the Czech Republic and Slovenia, to sell to Brazilian criminals.

However, before the sale, the weapons and ammunition passed through Paraguay, in a company in Asunción, which is in his name, where they were scraped and resold to groups of intermediaries who operated on the border between Brazil and Paraguay, to be resold to the main criminal factions in Brazil.

Details from the General Coordination for the Repression of Drugs, Weapons, Crimes against Property and Criminal Factions (CGPRE) of the Federal Police in Brasília show that the items were sold to the First Capital Command (PCC), in São Paulo, and to Red Command, in Rio de Janeiro.

The weapons also went to other states in Brazil, as identified by the PF.

It is estimated that, since the beginning of the investigations, the investigated company from Paraguay, which imported approximately 43 thousand weapons to the country neighboring Brazil, generated approximately R$1.2 billion in revenue in three years. During this period, 67 seizures were carried out, totaling 659 weapons seized in Brazilian territory.

The investigation began in 2020, when pistols and ammunition were seized in the interior of Bahia, with members of the PCC faction. The weapons had their serial numbers removed, but, through forensic examination, the PF was able to obtain information on their origin and advance the investigation.

This Tuesday (5), the PF served 25 arrest warrants and 52 search and seizure warrants against the group. The former commander of the Paraguayan Air Force was arrested on suspicion of being part of the organization. The main target, Diego Hernan Dirísio, is on the run.
