From The Weeknd to Dua Lipa, who are the most listened to artists of 2020 on Spotify

The Weeknd, from the events that should have validated its success, got little and nothing during the year. The Grammys snubbed him, and the recriminations of the singer, who asked the commission for an official apology, were of little use. “The Grammys remain corrupt,” wrote Bella Hadid’s former partner online, in which the lack of statuettes and nominations created a void that only Spotify tried to fill.

The streaming platform, whose year-end report arrived on time, returned a The Weeknd the full extent of its success. Singer, the fifth most listened to in the world after Bad Bunny and Drake, it totaled an average of 65.8 million monthly listeners. After Hours, his latest album, was, in 2020, the second most listened to, while Blinding Lights, his flagship single, is the song that in the year that is now ending has obtained more streaming than any other. The Weeknd, in Spotify’s annual report, has seen its desire for revenge legitimized, and, together with others, has been recognized as one of the ten artists who have contributed most to heat a cold and dark 2020. Like The Weeknd, J Balvin e Juice World, who passed away in December last year, they managed to accompany listeners through the pandemic. Then, Ariana Grande, Dua Lipa and three other women, enclosed – all – in the gallery above.
