From TikTok to the millionaires club: How 19-year-old Olivia Dunne did it

19-year-old Olivia Dune could never have imagined that her involvement with instrumental gymnastics at Louisiana State University (LSU) and showing off her TikTok skills would swell her wallet so much.

The 19-year-old made the leap into the millionaires’ club by earning a million in 12 months and already has more than 5.6 million followers on social media. Big sporting goods companies and agencies are crawling at her feet to include her in their workforce. Among them is WME Sports, the agency that represents the internationally famous Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic who worked with her last August, filling Olivia’s account with many zeros.

This was the trigger for other profitable collaborations to come, such as the contract with the big companies Forever 21 and American Eagle. As the New York Post reports, citing Forbes, the TikToker also signed a deal with sportswear company Vuori, for a six-figure fee!

The young beauty began capitalizing on her success on social media last June after the NCAA voted to lift the Name, Image & Likeness (NIL) rule restrictions that barred athletes from colleges to earn by showcasing their qualifications.

She herself is trying to downplay the shame that is being done with her name and her title as athlete Superstar. “I just want to be a role model for the young girls. I want to set a good example. I’m just going with the flow and that’s excitingshe told her fans on TikTok.

American Eagle targets Generation Z, the internet-savvy and social-media-savvy generation (born between 1998 and 2015), which means college athletes – with their fit bodies and young social media followings networking – they can become the ultimate representatives of that particular brand. This happened to Olivia as well.

“Some of these guys have really stood out in a big way, and that’s what’s driving social media,” American Eagle CMO Craig Brommers told the New York Post. Of 19-year-old Olivia, he said: “She’s a great gymnast, but she also has an authentic and upbeat persona on social media. And she basically looks great in a pair of American Eagle jeans. It is this magic that we are looking for as we explore the world of NIL,” he said.

Dune frequently airs on TikTok the clothes of the three companies, as well as on Instagram where he has 1.9 million followers. Since her audience will increase in the next period of time, she is ready to cooperate with other companies, even overshadowing big names of athletes. Although, as she says, her biggest concern is to stay at the top of gymnastics and not to be distracted by social media from this goal she has set.

The talented teenager was a member of the USA Gymnastics team in 2017 before competing at the national championships the following year. She was then offered a full scholarship to the University of Louisiana.
