From whims to “soft chat”: Kate Middleton’s rules for educating George, Charlotte and Louis

Although they can count on one of the best nannies in the country, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are unrivaled when it comes to parenting. Not only because they hope to give George, Charlotte and Louis an education as “normal” as possible, but also because they are committed to ensuring that their children do not rest too much on the laurels that their royal status allows, losing sight of the important things . Involving the little ones in activities such as cooking and playing in the garden are, per Kate Middleton e William, priorities not to be underestimated, together with an education that is balanced, neither too soft nor too severe.

According to a source consulted by The Sun, the main rule at the Cambridge home would be only one: not scream. “Shouting is absolutely forbidden for children and every hint of screaming is handled in a particular way.” In fact, there is talk of a technique called «chat soft»: «The pestiferous child is removed from the quarrel and is spoken to him calmly on the sidelines: things are explained and the consequences must be clear» adds the source. When Kate and William perform their royal duties, however, childcare falls on their nanny, Maria Borrallo, trained at prestigious Norland College and hired by her family in 2014 when George was eight months old. The woman lives in Kensington Palace and follows the family on royal visits and tours while keeping a low profile.

According to the source, it seems that Maria is particularly severe and prefers a “no frills” approach: according to Louise Heren’s experience, in fact, the main goal is to try to limit whims as much as possible. “Maria knows that, while they get off the plane holding their mother’s hand, smiling and greeting the crowd, there can be no tears or tantrums.” Also, it seems like another rule has to do with bedtime each night: 7 pm, without any exception. In an attempt to discourage whims at the table it seems, moreover, that new foods and flavors are introduced every day, not forgetting to encourage outdoor play – between bicycles, games with the dog and gardening – and more traditional ones, such as the puzzle. Another issue is the time spent on tablets, which is entirely at the discretion of the parents – a post that William admitted to finding particularly difficult in the past.
