European Union ambassadors postpone talks on preparing for new EU-US trade and technology council on 29 September protesting the submarine purchase agreement against France between Washington and Australia, said two EU diplomats.
A document on the agenda also shows that discussions between the 27 EU ambassadors are no longer included without giving a reason. Two diplomats said the European Commission had asked for the talks to be postponed.
The first EU-US Council, announced at a transatlantic summit in June, is set to take place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, told CNN that the way France was treated was “unacceptable”.
