Three civilians were killed and several others were wounded in fighting in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine on Sunday (29). The information comes from an update from the regional military administration of Donetsk, released on Monday.
Russian forces bombed areas in the north of the region with small arms, tanks, artillery, mortars and rockets, the statement said. About 24 buildings were also damaged, including 20 residential buildings, an electrical substation and a shopping mall.
Donetsk is one of the separatist and pro-Russian regions east of Ukraine alongside Luhansk, where the Russian offensive has intensified in recent days. On Monday morning there were also bombings in areas southwest of the city.
Water and electricity supplies have been partially restored in the region, but there is currently no gas supply, the statement added.
In another update, the head of Donetsk’s regional military administration, Pavlo Kyrylenko, spoke to the national television station.
“The situation is tense. The bombing along the front lines does not stop,” Kyrylenko said. “The hottest spots are Avdiivka, Toretsk and Lyman. Attacks remain active in these regions. There are constant enemy bombardments from Bakhmut, Soledar.”
The military added that the main route from Bakhmut to Lysychansk is still under Ukrainian control, but the Russians are “constantly bombing the route”. This is the main route for the provision of humanitarian goods and is important for evacuations, he added.
