A user under the nickname PotatoOfDoom published his own mod on the Nexus Mods platform, which allows you to replace NVIDIA’s DLSS upscaling technology with AMD’s FSR 2.0 in Cyberpunk 2077. To do this, the enthusiast simply had to replace the files in the game client, slightly reworking the AAA project.
It is worth noting that the replacement of one technology with another had a positive effect on the frame rate in the game. A user under the nickname PotatoOfDoom said that thanks to his mod, the frame rate in Cyberpunk 2077 exactly doubled – previously on his computer with a GTX 1080 at 4K resolution, he could hardly get 20 frames per second, but now the game shows 45 FPS. At the same time, the loss in image quality is almost imperceptible, and even if you run the game not in 4K resolution, but in 1080p (which is more reasonable for weak configurations), then the difference in performance will be even more noticeable, although the picture quality does not suffer.
The mod developer recalled that Cyberpunk 2077 has long supported the FSR 1.0 upscale technology, but the second version has not yet been implemented by the developers. This will probably happen in the very near future, especially considering that some time ago, AMD officially published the source code for FSR 2.0 technology. Accordingly, now any video game developer will be able to implement support for this technology in their project – just a desire is enough. Or you just need to wait until the same enthusiast implements mod support. And, of course, this is good news not only for owners of AMD video cards.
The fact is that FSR 2.0 upscaling technology will significantly increase the frame rate not only on Radeon video cards, but also on video cards released by NVIDIA and its partners, if these models do not support DLSS technology. In addition, PotatoOfDoom himself has already stated that the current version of the custom modification is not final, so bugs and various graphic artifacts may occur, but he will develop the mod until the technology is implemented natively.
