The new Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, told the CNN that Lula’s change of position, which immediately extended the fuel exemption as soon as he took office, aims to wait for the new president of Petrobras to take office.
“Until the new price policy is defined, the idea is that no abrupt changes come,” said Silveira. Former Senator Jean Paul Prates (PT) was nominated by Lula for the presidency of the state-owned company.
The provisional measure that extends the fuel exemption was published this Monday (2) in the Official Gazette and is valid for two months for gasoline and ethanol, and for one year for diesel, biodiesel and natural gas.
The new Minister of Mines and Energy takes office in a ceremony scheduled for this Monday. Silveira told CNN that the speech will address the need for a safe environment in Brazil for investment and competitiveness.
