The president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), sent a note to the press this Friday (17) in which he says that “the situation of fuel prices is getting out of control”.
Pacheco spoke after yet another fuel price readjustment announced today by Petrobras. Starting this Saturday (18) gasoline will vary by R$ 0.15 per liter, while diesel will vary by R$ 0.63 per liter.
According to the president of the Senate, the government must “accept to share the huge profits of Petrobras with the population”, and that other countries are already adopting similar measures.
“If the fuel price situation is getting out of control, the government must accept to share Petrobras’ huge profits with the population, through a price stabilization account in times of crisis. After all, the Petrobras and Government dichotomy does not exist, as the Union is the majority shareholder of the state-owned company and its board is appointed by the government. In addition, similar measures are being adopted by other countries in favor of their economy and population. The Senate approved numerous legislative matters that were within its reach and now expects quick and effective measures from Petrobras and its parent company, the Union. Since the government is against discussing the company’s pricing policy and interfering in its governance, the stabilization account is an alternative to be considered”, says the note released by Rodrigo Pacheco.
