Gasoline readjustment
The readjustment of the price of gasoline and diesel announced yesterday by Petrobras begins to take effect this Friday (11). The increase applied to distributors – which reaches 18% for gasoline and 25% for diesel – was justified by the state-owned company as necessary to prevent shortages in the country and is the first after 57 days without changes.
ICMS rules
After approval by the National Congress, the bill that changes the collection of the Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Products (ICMS) on fuel goes to presidential sanction. The text provides for the creation of a single charge of the tax to contain the increase in prices. In addition, other taxes, such as PIS/Pasep and Cofins should be exempt until the end of the year.
humanitarian corridors
Once again, Russia has promised to open new humanitarian corridors for civilians to leave Ukraine. The Defense Ministry said it will secure evacuation routes in territories under its control, while a prior list of people and vehicles must be required.
Aid to Ukraine
In the United States, the Senate passed a law that includes aid to Ukraine. The package allocates more than 13 billion dollars – equivalent to R$ 65 billion – for humanitarian, economic and defense aid to the eastern European country. The bill must be signed by President Joe Biden.
Boric’s possession
In Chile, President-elect Gabriel Boric will take office today at La Moneda Palace, the seat of the national government, in Santiago. At 36, the left-wing politician and former student leader will become the youngest president to rule the country. He was elected in December 2021, surpassing José Antonio Kast, and will replace Sebastián Piñera, who reaches the end of his second term.
