Fuel sales by distributors in Brazil grew 5.9% in 2021 compared to the previous year, to 139.5 billion liters, boosted by the commercialization of diesel oil and gasoline, according to data from the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels. (ANP).
Despite the advance, the numbers have not yet exceeded pre-pandemic fuel marketing levels. In 2019, sales totaled 140.13 billion liters.
Diesel, the most traded fuel in the country, however, broke a sales record by distributors, of 62.11 billion liters in 2021, an increase of 8.1% compared to 2020.
Gasoline sales, in turn, rose 9.8% last year, to 39.32 billion liters, the highest volume since 2017, when 44.15 billion liters were sold.
Already sales of hydrous ethanol, a direct competitor of gasoline at the pumps, fell 12.8% year-on-year, to 16.79 billion liters.
