Fueling up with ethanol may be more advantageous in some states, points out ANP

With the rise in gasoline prices and the consecutive drops in the cost of ethanol, filling the tank with alcohol is already starting to be more advantageous for the consumer. According to the latest price survey by the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), the national price of ethanol was R$5.00, while gasoline was R$7.24.

It is worth noting that gasoline has the ability to make the vehicle run more kilometers than with ethanol. On average, a liter of gasoline yields up to 14 kilometers (km), while the same amount of ethanol travels an average of 9 km.

To check the fuel with the best cost benefit, the consumer must divide the value of ethanol by the price of gasoline. If the result is below 0.7, the best option is alcohol.

However, according to a CNN survey based on data released by the ANP, not all states have prices below or in line with the national average. The states of Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso, Goiás and São Paulo are the four in which the advantage of ethanol over gasoline can already be verified.

Average fuel price in states where ethanol is advantageous:

  • Minas Gerais ( Ethanol: BRL 5.12 X Gasoline: BRL 7.47)
  • Goiás ( Ethanol: BRL 4.92 X Gasoline: BRL 7.49)
  • Mato Grosso ( Ethanol: BRL 4.87 X Gasoline: BRL 7.04)
  • Sao Paulo ( Ethanol: BRL 4.65 X Gasoline: BRL 6.85)

According to the latest ANP price survey, regular gasoline has resumed growth at the country’s gas stations after three consecutive weeks of decline. According to the bulletin released this Friday (10), the average price of a liter of gasoline rose in the cents and reached R$ 7.24, compared to R$ 7.21.

Ethanol, an alternative for drivers in times of high gasoline prices, remains on a downward trend. This week, the average price of a liter reached R$ 5.00, after six consecutive drops in price.
