Fuels cost at least 40% more in December, survey shows

A survey carried out by the company Ticket Log, of the Endered Brasil brand, compared the cost to fill the tank in December 2021 and in December 2020. According to the survey, gasoline was 46.7% more expensive for drivers this month , compared to the same period last year. Already the value of ethanol rose 56.5% in service stations.

On average, the population paid R$6.890 per liter of gasoline during Christmas. In 2020, on the same date, it was possible to supply R$ 4,696 per liter. Ethanol, in turn, was around R$ 5.680 last week. The numbers were measured by the Ticket Log Price Index (IPTL). The indicator takes into account the performance of 21 thousand service stations in the country.

Rio de Janeiro continues to be the state with the most expensive gasoline in Brazil, with a liter at R$7.282. The cheapest price is for Amapá, at R$ 6,388 per liter.

With regard to ethanol, Roraima was the region with the greatest increase in the value of fuel. With an increase of 3.49% in the price, a liter of ethanol has cost R$ 6,400. Before, the same amount came out at R$ 6.184. The biggest reduction came from Rio Grande do Norte, with a low of 3.50%. Thus, the liter went from R$7.149 to R$6.899.

The bad results go against the behavior of fuel prices registered in Brazil in the first fifteen days of December. Both gasoline (-0.52%) and ethanol (-1.26%) fell in December compared to November.

The executive of Edenred Brasil, Douglas Pina, highlights this stable scenario in the pace of rising fuel prices identified by the survey. However, Pina also draws attention to the reality of the majority of the population. “The averages are still high and the value of gasoline and ethanol still weighs heavily on the pockets of Brazilian drivers”, he assesses.
