Vinícius Bezerra dos Santos Nunes, 28 years old, was arrested while walking through the Cidade Tiradentes bus terminal, in the east zone of São Paulo, when he was recognized by the smart cameras of the Metropolitan Civil Guard (GCM).
The man was sentenced to 15 years for the crime of kidnapping and had been on the run from the Mongaguá Penitentiary since 2022. GCM agents were called and the criminal was taken to the 49th Police District, where he remains imprisoned. Watch the video:
According to the complaint, Vinícius was hired by a gang in 2015 to kidnap the stepdaughter of a former companion of one of the gang members. He was recruited by José Domingos Matos de Brito, known as “Baianinho”, who died in a confrontation with the police.
At the time of the crime, Vinícius’ apartment was used as a prison, according to investigations. The man and another criminal were arrested red-handed, and the victim was released.
During the imprisonment, which lasted around four days, the criminals began to extort the victim’s family. The amount initially required for redemption was value of R$3 million .
Since September, around 270 fugitives have been captured by the camera system called SmartSampa, according to data from São Paulo city hall. Another 1,380 people were arrested while committing crimes and 28 missing people were found.
