Fujifilm GFX100S medium format camera introduced

As expected, Fujifilm introduced the GFX100S medium format camera, preliminary information on which appeared the day before. By the way, all of them were confirmed, so we will try not to repeat ourselves.

This is the fourth and, according to the manufacturer, the “most powerful” model of the GFX system. It resembles a full-frame camera in dimensions, but it is based on a 102-megapixel back-illuminated image sensor, which is 1.7 times larger in size (43.8 mm x 32.9 mm) than a full-frame one. The sensor is paired with the X-Processor 4 image processor. Built-in 5 DOF sensor-shift image stabilization allows you to gain up to 6 stops of exposure. The manufacturer specifies that such a gain is possible when using a camera with a Fujinon GF63mmF2.8 R WR lens.

Unlike most similar cameras, the GFX100S has phase focusing pixels that cover almost 100% of the frame, improving autofocus. The auto focus system is equipped with tracking focus, face and eye detection.

The camera can shoot 4K video at 30fps. When writing to a card, you can use 10-bit representation and 4: 2: 0 downsampling. An external Atomos Ninja V recorder can output ProRes RAW video with 12-bit representation and 4: 2: 2 downsampling via HDMI. Compression available in H.264 and H.265 standards. In addition, professional standards can be selected such as REC.2100 with Hybrid Gamma Log (HLG) or F-Log support.
