Fungus can ‘eat us outward’ is expected to spread due to climate change – Specialists are worried

As the planet is heated, deadly fungi threaten to spread to areas where they could not survive so far. Fungal infections kill about 2.5 million people per year and lack of data means that this number can be much higher, as CNN reports. A new study by the University of Manchester shows that pathogenic microorganisms, such as Aspergillus, find new opportunities for survival in an ever -changing climate. Scientists have used computational models and predict that, in the coming decades, these fungi will extend to North America, Europe, China and Russia, threatening millions of people. The public debate on fungi was also rekindled by the popular television series of HBO, The Last of Us, where a mutated fungal infection has decimated humanity.
