Future AMD processors will get an integrated FPGA

AMD plans to pair its Epyc server processors with FPGAs from Xilinx, now also owned by AMD.

Future AMD processors will get an integrated FPGA

The first such CPUs will be released next year. So far, it is known that the blocks integrated into the processors will be responsible for accelerating the work of artificial intelligence. At the same time, it is not known whether all new Epyc CPUs will have such blocks or whether it will be some kind of separate specialized line.

According to available data, next year AMD should release Turin processors based on the Zen 5 architecture. Probably, we are talking about them. There is no data on these CPUs yet. We only know that the Bergamo that preceded them will have up to 128 cores.

The source also says that for FPGA integration, the company will use the 3D layout technology that is currently being used to create the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. The FPGA chiplet will be co-located with the I/O chiplet, meaning it will be a separate module and not part of the processor chiplet.
