Fux meets with government to discuss cave protection decree

The president of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Minister Luiz Fux, met this Wednesday (23) with Minister Bento Albuquerque (Minas e Energia) to discuss the actions presented in the Court against the decree that deals with the protection of caves.

The action, reported by Minister Ricardo Lewandowski, had the trial interrupted this week. On Monday (21), Minister Dias Toffoli asked for a view (more time to analyze the case), which suspended the trial, which took place in the virtual plenary of the Supreme (voting method in which justices register their positions in the STF system, without having a session for the individual reading of each vote). There is still no date for when the trial will resume.

Until Toffoli’s request for a review, only Lewandowski and Minister Cármen Lúcia had voted, both in favor of suspending parts of the federal government’s decree.

In January, the rapporteur, Minister Lewandowski, decided, in an injunction (provisional), to suspend parts of the decree, alleging that there is “risk of irreversible damage to underground natural cavities and their areas of influence” that justify the suspension of parts of the decree. decree until the analysis of the case by the plenary of the STF.
