G. Alexopoulos: ELPE’s goal is 2GW RES by 2030

The crisis in Ukraine showed how important security of supply is, emphasized the executive member of the Board of Directors of ELPE and CEO of ELPE Renewables G. Alexopoulos speaking at the Economist conference.

Mr. Alexopoulos emphasized that as the energy transition accelerates, the governments and the energy sector should ensure that we do not jeopardize the supply and at the same time ensure that it is done at the minimum cost.

We welcome the opportunity given to us by the European Council for energy neutrality with the use of renewable fuels in order to achieve the goal of decarbonisation of transport and we believe that a step has been taken in the right direction, said Mr. Alexopoulos.

At the same time, he emphasized that in the process of the energy transition, everyone should realize that the use of conventional energy is also required. We will need conventional energy sources for several years and this means medium-term investments, he said.

Referring to the role of ELPE, he emphasized that the Vision 2025 transformation plan has been launched with the aim of decarbonizing the activity and also the development of the new RES pillar.

He mentioned the initiatives to reduce the Group’s energy consumption and the use of renewable energy, while at the same time he emphasized that RES are being developed. Currently the installed capacity reaches 300MW while the target is 2GW by 2030.

Finally, Mr. Alexopoulos referred to the changes at the level of corporate structure and corporate governance in the group, while underlining that the new name and identity of ELPE will be announced soon, which will reflect both the heritage and the group’s vision for the energy transition.
