G. Bratakos (EVEA) requested a 3% ceiling on the indexation of professional rents

The introduction of a 3% ceiling by the State in the indexation of professional rents was requested by the President of EVEA Giannis Bratakos in a letter sent to the competent Ministers of Finance, Christos Staikouras and Development and Investments, to Adonis Georgiados as act as a counterweight to the threat of self-sustaining inflation.

As the President of EVEA states in his letter, given the extraordinary circumstances that disproportionately affect the amount of the index, this measure constitutes a legitimate balancing intervention by the state, which will allow the fair distribution of additional costs between the owners and of tenants.

In detail, the letter of the president of EVEA Mr. Giannis Bratakou is as follows:

“For several months now, the real economy has been experiencing a wave of price increases in energy, raw materials and commodities. A sharp rise in inflation, which is expected to continue in the next period, erodes the disposable income of citizens, complicates the operation of businesses and slows down the growth rate of the Greek economy.

In this environment, it is advisable for the State to take targeted measures, which can combined to act as a counterweight to the threat of self-sustaining inflation.

One regulation that serves this purpose is the introduction of a ceiling of 3% in the indexation of professional rents. Given the exceptional circumstances that disproportionately affect the level of the index, we believe that this measure is a legitimate balancing intervention by the state, which will allow the fair sharing of additional costs between landlords and tenants.

“In another extremely difficult situation, the small and medium-sized enterprises in the area need every possible support in order to survive and take an active role in the recovery of the next day.”
