G. Chatzitheodosiou (KEEE): From 2019 until today the restaurant has lost 3 billion euros and continues to be affected

The assessment that the energy crisis will cover the whole year, was expressed by the president of the Central Union of Chambers of Greece and the Athens Chamber of Commerce, Giannis Chatzitheodosiou, in an interview with STAR Central Greece, while for the price increases he predicted that next year in some products 30%.

According to a relevant post today on the website of the chamber, the president was in favor of the modernization of companies, but explained that it takes time for this to happen, while emphasizing the need to use the resources of the NSRF and the Recovery Fund in this direction.

However, until their digital upgrade is achieved, businesses must endure, stay alive, said Mr. Hatzitheodosiou, raising the crucial issue of liquidity, by creating more and more accessible, for all businesses, financial tools .

“Time and plan are also required for the merger of companies”, noted Mr. Hatzitheodosiou, acknowledging that the joining of forces will have benefits.

Speaking about the current situation in the market and the economy, he said that the three biggest problems facing society and the economy are the pandemic, the energy crisis and the rise in prices.

The president estimated that the energy crisis will cover the whole year, while for the price increases he predicted that they will strengthen in the next two months, exceeding 30% in some products. The chamber community, as he said, has submitted to the State a series of proposals to address the accuracy, which include, among other things, the increase of the energy subsidy from 50% to 75%, as well as the reduction of VAT on basic necessities from 13% to 6%.

As for the heavy blow to the focus due to the pandemic and the restrictive measures, he pointed out that from 2019 until today, the industry has lost 3 billion euros and continues to be affected, which makes it necessary for its further support from the State.

During the interview, Mr. Hatzitheodosiou also addressed the issues of smuggling – smuggling and tax evasion – contribution evasion, emphasizing that these are the worst forms of unfair competition and that their restriction is a matter of political decision. He also focused on the importance of development in the region, through the use of the advantages of each region.

Finally, the president underlined that the chambers are an institutional ally of companies and an advisor to the State, stating that during the pandemic, 22 proposals of the chambers and the KEEE were accepted by the government, for the benefit of entrepreneurship.
