The president of the Central Union of Greek Chambers and the Athens Chamber of Commerce, Giannis Chatzitheodosiou, spoke to ERT1 and MEGA about the compensations that the citizens can claim for the suffering and the damages they suffered due to the bad weather.
Mr. Hatzitheodosiou pointed out that the compensation can reach up to 100,000 euros, while he noted that if someone receives an amount out of court, he will not be able to have other claims.
“We have three categories of compensation. First, the category of all those who suffered damage in the blizzard either due to the slippery terrain or because they collided with other vehicles. It is a given that insurance companies have an obligation, within 15 days, to compensate them immediately. “I say that the number of these accidents is very large, it is certain that the insurance companies can turn against Attiki Odos or against the Region that is responsible for these accidents”, said Mr. Hatzitheodosiou.
The second category concerns all those who saw their vehicles damaged by trees. “Those who have coverage for natural phenomena will be compensated,” Mr. Hatzitheodosiou explained, although of course, as he added, some municipalities such as the Municipality of Athens have stated that they will cover the damage from the broken branches and trees.
“The third category concerns the drivers who were trapped on Attiki Odos and the passengers of TRAINOSE who were immobilized, in the snow, for hours. “The exact amount will be decided by the judge”, explained Mr. Hatzitheodosiou.
As he said, the question is if someone signs the document of Attiki Odos, “that I have no other claims, then he can not go to court. Most of the time these documents explicitly write that taking the money I have no claim”.
According to the president, the citizen will have to prove that he was damaged and that he was either on Attiki Odos or somewhere else and suffered great suffering.
He noted that this will be the first time that citizens turn to mass lawsuits in Greece for such an event.
