G. Economou: Contest of extreme rhetoric by the Turkish leadership

For a “competition” of extreme rhetoric from all of Turkey’s political leadership, the government spokesman Yannis Oikonomou spoke, commenting on the new statements of the Turkish Minister of Defense, Hulusi Akar.

Speaking to SKAI, G. Economou emphasized that they are a tactic for Turkey fabricated and unsubstantiated claims outside the framework of international law and the continuation of challenges both at the level of rhetoric and in the field.

“It is clear that the international public opinion neither shares, nor sees with a good eye this revisionism of the opposite side. It is also very clear that (Greece) has been strengthened by the upgraded position of our country on the international stage, by the strengthening of our deterrence capability,” the government spokesman said.

He said that it is no coincidence that so far the summer has passed calmly, but it is the result of a diplomacy that has passed its messages and has strengthened the geostrategic footprint of our country.

He added that Greece desires quiet and peace, is a factor of stability and is unyielding in its national and sovereign rights which are guaranteed and protected.

Regarding the invocation of “history” by Turkish government officials, he commented that historical science was Greek, that Greeks always read history well, but with an eye on the future and not on the past.

“That’s why we managed to keep Hellenism universal, that’s why we managed to go from a small province of the Ottoman Empire in 200 years to being at the core of Europe, that’s why we always manage to raise levels and gain the support and appeal of of our opinions”, he characteristically said.
