G. Economou: There are targeted interventions for accuracy

The government support for the accuracy of electricity and gas will continue for the duration of the energy crisis and the inconceivable prices, assured the government spokesman, Giannis Oikonomou speaking on SKAI TV.

He stressed that 350 million euros were allocated in February and that what is required will be given in March, in order not to neutralize the consequences of the energy crisis but to alleviate it.

He also assured that targeted interventions will be made in large sections of society that need further support.

According to Mr. Economou, specific announcements will be made soon, while the height and perimeter of these measures are currently being discussed.

He clarified that the perimeter of the measures will not be small and that any possibility will be exhausted.

He added that the money is not endless and therefore the measures should have the maximum possible effect.

The government spokesman stressed that it is important that Mitsotakis’ proposals are accurately reflected in the official text of the Summit conclusions, pointing out the three things that this development highlights.

It means that Europe must invest money, as it did for the pandemic, to supply vaccines and to curb the economic consequences. The same must be done now for the energy, through a fund that will be financed by the Ripan Fund.

Europe must intervene in the price of energy, and whatever we give if prices are constantly rising will be like chasing our tail.

Coordinated, look at ways to intervene in energy prices and the EU’s energy independence. A number of expenditures should be excluded from what we call fiscal rules. Not only energy but also defense.
